The Reason for the Crutches

I had been having pain in my right leg since Amelia was born almost 3 months ago. I took ibuprofen and hobbled around hoping it would just get better. It got worse, so I went to my primary care physician. He thought it might be a torn meniscus - very common, out patient surgery, no problem. He ordered x-rays just to be on the safe side and referred me to an Orthopedic surgeon.

I met with the Orthopedic surgeon and showed him my x-rays. He noticed a black mass in my femur near my knee. He didn't know what it was so he put me on crutches and ordered an MRI and a CAT scan of the area. Once he got those results, he referred me to an Orthopedic Oncologist.

I met with the Oncologist which is a very surreal experience. He said that something is eating away at my bone and has reached the cortex or the outside layer. He did a few exercises with me to test bone strength and he said it's still pretty strong. He couldn't really tell me anything definitive so he ordered a CAT scan of my mid section to see if my leg is the primary problem or a secondary problem cause by something we don't even know about yet. I had that done yesterday.

He also ordered a bone biopsy which will take place on Friday. Once the results of the biopsy come back, I will meet with the Oncologist again and will hopefully get some answers as to what this is and how we can go about treating it.

Needless to say it has been a difficult road so far - both emotionally and physically.Through it all, my faith is stronger than ever. The promises of God are real and true and I am living it! He has a plan and I am just going to hang on and enjoy the ride. He is not safe, but he is good. (paraphrased from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis)

I am studying the Psalms this month. Let me know if you want to join in!
